Karim Haroun

My name is Karim Haroun, I am a Non-tenured Assistant Professor in Machine Learning at IUSD Team, LIASD Laboratory, Université Paris 8. My research focuses on frugal ML algorithms through neural network compression, in particular sparse learning and quantization. Additionally, I am interested in more mathematically grounded research to better understand ML models. Indeed, I have a growing interest in modular deep learning and neural architecture growth using insights from geometry, information theory and optimal transport. Moreover, I am a strong believer in open science and an advocate of open source software, which is essential for the advancement of science and the democratization of knowledge.

When not working on research problems, classical guitar is my go-to way to unwind and forget about this mad world. Additionally, I enjoy throwing some basketball hoops with friends from time to time.
